Sarah Palin: Jan Brewer Has the "Cojones" that Obama Lacks

Sarah Palin's attempt to be funny/folksy/whatever her shtick is may have gone a little too far on "Fox News Sunday" when she said that President Obama lacked the testicular fortitude to "look out for all Americans." In her discussion of Arizona's misguided immigration law, Palin said:
And, Jan Brewer, bless her heart, she's going to do all that she can to continue down the litigation path to allow secure borders because she's – Jan Brewer has the cojones that our president does not have to look out for all Americans – not just Arizonans – but all Americans in this desire of ours to secure our borders and allow legal immigration to help build this country. . . . if our own president will not enforce a federal law, more power to Jan Brewer . . . to do what our president won't do. [emphasis mine]
Politics is a dirty game; I'll give Palin that. But it is generally frowned upon to discuss a sitting president's testicles, at least in polite company (Kenneth Starr notwithstanding.) Never mind that Palin is simply wrong about the Arizona law. The crucial portion of the law, which requires police officers to ask about a person's immigration status if the officer believed they were in the country illegally, was blocked last week and the soonest Arizona can argue against the injunction will be in November. Palin thinks that the injunction will prove to be temporary. Chances are it won't be, because it's pretty clear (with decent legal precedence) that immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility not to be infringed upon by states. It's all laid out in this thing called the Constitution.

Palin is right about one thing: Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's got balls. It takes balls to pursue a litigation (on the state's dime, of course) that any legal scholar will tell you is a losing enterprise. It takes balls to cite violence as a reason for trying to stem illegal immigration in your state when data prove otherwise. In other words, it takes balls to do the wrong thing in the face of so many people knowing what is right. Keep on fighting the bad fight, Governor Brewer. It takes balls.
